Matching two columns to sum their corresponding cells

Hello,

I have text data in column A and the corresponding Numeric(the debits) in column B. Also have text data in column C, and it's corresponding numeric (the credits) I'm column D.
The data in Col C have more than one corresponding entry to Col A at times. How do I get Col A to match its text data on col D, and add up corresping Col C values to Col D.
