page numbers for workbook with multiple worksheets

I have a workbook with 40 worksheets. Each worksheet is two pages of printing.

I would like to add page numbers that apply to the workbook as a whole (i.e., when I print the "entire workbook"). In other words, I would like to end up with page numbers one through 80.

Does anyone know a way to do that "automatically" (i.e., without going in and numbering each page one at a time)?

Thanks. -- Kimbo

Two ways: first, on each of the sheets in the footer section of page setup, choose to place &[Page] of &[Pages] ; once done, whenever selected worksheets are printed there will be a page x of y at the bottom.
Another way is via macro, but I really think this would suit better. Will post a macro solution if wanted.

Can u please a macro code...?????

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
I am having the exact opposite problem: I want to print my 110 page book, but some of my worksheets have numbers and others don't. I want just those sheets to be numbered 1,2,3,4 etc and 1,2, etc when I print the whole workbook. Is this possible?

can i suggest rather than hijacking a post made in 2003 it would be better to create your own NEW post asking exactly what you want ..

lots of contributors only look at NEW posts

Hey Folks,

Was using this thread to troubleshoot an issue I was having. I thought it would be helpful to point out that you need to make sure all your pages have the "First page number" setting set to "Auto".
To do this:
File > Page Setup > Page

Where it says "First page number" type in:
Auto

Sorry for the digging up the dead here but I am using the search feature. :)
