Questions of AcceptAllChanges

Hi all,

May i know how does AcceptAllChanges work in detail? I currently have a shared excel workbook in Sharepoint, and when a user 'checks out' the workbook, the workbook will be 'locked for editing' and the rest would not know who is using the workbook at the moment until they click on the save button.

I wish to somehow solve this problem by
  • hopefully allowing concurrent updates on the workbook OR
  • notify the user when another user is currently using the workbook OR
  • both would be the best!
So is there any kind of code that i can place in the workbook Open event, to notify the user when another is already using it?

And.. will allowing the workbook to acceptallchanges allow concurrent updates?

Thanks

Excel Facts

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
I'm not familiar with "checking out" a workbook from Sharepoint, but it sounds to me like all you need to do is make it a shared workbook.

The Share Workbook... option is on the Tools menu in Excel 2003 (thank you for indicating your version, btw).

Hi Greg,

You're greatly welcome and I thank you deeply for your reply too. Anyway, a question regarding sharing a workbook. May i ask what exactly does sharing a workbook do?

Thanks

Thanks

That's a question that really would require a rather lengthy answer. Here are a couple of brief overviews.

In a nutshell it allows multiple people to open the workbook and edit cells at the same time. It's not always flawless and there are some limitations to shared workbooks.

And I will tell you that it is not always smooth sailing. But I would say it is an option you should probably explore. If it's not working well for you, Deb has some thoughts on other ideas here:
