Range formula

I need a formula that will count the numbers within a range of formulas..ex: in cell A1 838800 cell A2 838809..im using 1+ (A2-A1) which works but if I have nothing in A1 and A2 I don't want it to show a 1..i want 0 as this is messing up other totals

=(A1>0)*(A2>0)+A2-A1
