Why? Getting 'command cannot be used on multiple selections" error?

I know this error generally means that you're trying to do something with multiple cells that is restricted to a single cell.

But what I'm trying to do is copy one cell from one workbook (source file) and paste it into another (destination). This happens even when I do it *manually* so it's not a VB issue.

And what's even stranger is that when I select two worksheets on the source file and try to paste the contents into a single worksheet destination file (and *should* get this error, I *don't* !

Any ideas?

Particular to a sheet, all sheets in a workbook, any sheet on any workbook?

To ask the obvious, have you closed and reopened Excel?

If you enter in the VBE Immediate window,

? Selection.Address

... what do you see?

Excel Facts

Easy bullets in Excel
If you have a numeric keypad, press Alt+7 on numeric keypad to type a bullet in Excel.
"Have you fudged your shortcut assignments? "

You mean have I done anything wonky with Control C or Control V?
No - Absolutely not.

It's something in the Source file... (I have several other versions of the Source file that all work fine, and the users of this particular file aren't competent enough to mess with the shortcut assignments.)

That's where it gets really weird...
When I group two sheets on the source file and do the same copy & paste, THEN it works for the cell on the visible sheet, ignoring the second grouped sheet.

And it still works fine in other Excel models that were and are open now.

You are apparently not a regular user of Microsoft products ...

All's well that ends well.

Pay careful attention to what cell your cursor is on. it must be one the cell you wish to copy. Also had this problem, solution is to hold +CTR and select one press +CTR C, and then copy next cell. and then +CTR C the next, and then +CTR C the next . . . etc. Then +CTR V to next worksheet. Make sure the number of cells you wish to copy over is sufficient to fit in your new work sheet. Hope this helps 6 years later lol

I ended up resolving this by removing a filter I had in the range where I copied and where I pasted. It worked after this.
