:P Hello EveryOne - I've been away for a while, but it's that time again when we have major project derailment due to our collective ignorance; though we're hoping one of you will know "The Answer"
"The Problem"
Background
A grocery shop, any old business, is selling or issuing goods and recording the sale in an Excel based invoice, using VLOOKUP, entering the Product_ID returns the Description and Selling_Price from the Stock database workbook.
User adds Number_Sold and the Sales_Value is calculated
Now, the problem is if initially we sell 3 off Product P7 which has an opening stock of 10 items we get a stock balance of 7 no problem; but then next customer comes in and buys 2 x P7 ; number sold should increase to 5 and stock balance decrease to 5.
We can't solve this without inserting a new column of Product Sold adding the 2 then subtracting from the cell with 5 and putting the answer in another new cell.
Messy and surely this is not the way to do it; As I'm sure lots of businesses want to carry out this simple stock update transaction hundreds of times a day, there has to be an elegant solution.
Any ideas gratefully received
Many ThanKs & Regards
PeterK
