Good day all,

Feel like this should be simple but cant figure it out.

Basically I have a column of names and need to count them as they descend if they are duplicates (see example below)

So I need a formula for column B that does the counting.

Any help would be appreciated

AB
1John
2John
3Rob
4Betty
5Betty

So with the formula would look like this...

AB
1John1
2John2
3Rob1
4Betty1
5Betty2

Excel Facts

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
How about
Excel Formula:
=COUNTIFS(A$2:A2,A2)

Solution
Initially it just looks at A2, then when dragged down one cell it looks at A2:A3 etc
