Hello,

I am new to excel, but I would like to ask if anyone knows how to achieve the following.

I make a list of names on excel, and then I want that excel to work in the background trying to find if those names are shown on the website/screen.
This must be live as the website updates every second.
If text is found on the website, open a message box saying FOUND.

Very simple yet impossible to find anything on the web.

Thank you for your time.

In theory something like that would be possible:
  • using Excel (VBA) you can scrape a website
  • then do a search for the word in the scraped text
  • loop this every so many seconds or minutes,
  • show a messagebox when certain text (from a list) is found.
There are a few things to consider though:
  • VBA does not work in the 'background', meaning that it hogs Excel. So you cannot use excel for anything else while this is going on. Even when it is 'pauzing'.
  • I haven't done any scraping, so not sure how quickly that is done. I doubt whether the described process can be achieved every second. But there are plenty of forum posts discussing how to do scraping
