  1. Windows
In Workbook1 in its “ThisWorkbook” module I have a “Workbook_Open” event that automatically opens Workbook2 (reference file) when Workbook1 is opened.

Question; are Wb1 and Wb2 open in the same instance of Excel or in 2 separate instances

Just got home, so going to be a while to fully explore/test your suggestions.

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
Mark,
ref to #29
That does “Quit” Excel, without saving.
Can I just restate what I had previously said in #17
I already have 3 slightly differing Save&Close subs, that when attached to a command button or run via VBA widow run button,
they all closed all instances of Excel that are open. But NONE of them do it when re-titled “Before Close” and placed in Book1 (primary book "ThisWorkbook".)

I did look at link to Jaafar Tribak.
But I stand NO CHANCE of making adjustments to suit my needs.

To you both;
Thank you for all your assistance, I am going to have to leave this problem in the unsesolved file as,
a) I can use some existing code attached to command button,
b) I just have to get on with other matters
