Hi all,

I have a spreadsheet of students with a column called 'Notes'. The cells in this column have the word "Notes" with an internal link to a Notes.txt file. Users can click this link to open a Notepad file to add information for the specific student.

So far it has been working OK, but for one of our users, when she opens the spreadsheet it converts the internal links to external links.

This is a sample internal link...
\\company.sharepoint.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\sites\region-north\IEC\Electrotechnology\Administration\Students\- Student Records -\West, David - DOB 100602\Notes.txt

This is what it changes it to...

Is there a user setting in Excel that I'm not aware of that is causing this to happen?

Thanks in advance.
Steve

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
The thing you are calling an internal link is not an internal link. It is not the address of a server on the internal network. It resolves to the URL that you showed. I suspect that if you copy that first string into the address box of a browser and hit ENTER the same thing will happen.

Does the link in Excel open the file when you click on it?

Yes. It opens the notepad file directly for editing by the user.

It is useless as a webpage as the user cannot add notes.

I understand that the "internal" link isn't pointing to a server. It is 'relational' as the Notes files are on the same server as the spreadsheet.
