I'm wondering if there's a keyboard short to reach the format drop-down.

I often find myself needing to format a cell with a short date. Looking for a keyboard shortcut to get there without using my mouse. I'm aware of the Ctrl+Shift+3 but not exactly the date format I want.

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
Just a suggestion, if your prefered date format is the short date format, why not set it as your default in Excel? If this interests you, see here:
Setting a Default Date Format in Excel
otherwise, Ctrl+1 takes you to the cell date format dialog box if you're in a cell with a date when you press it...

Hi Kev,

I'm aware of the default setting but often I copy and paste the date as values into a new location and it defaults to general formatting. I've seen someone use one of the ALT shortcuts before. I can't recall and to my surprise nowhere documented on the internet.

If you ever find out what that Alt shortcut is, I'd be keen to know :)

If you tap Alt, the keys you need to press to navigate to whatever you’re trying to do should show up.
