Pass a value from subroutine to main routine

I've the main sub needing receive a value (amount) from a subroutine.

How can I figure it out?

a = z + amount

    amount = Application.WorksheetFunction.Sum(tab.Range("G2:G" & counter))

You could just convert the subroutine into a function.
