School College University Timetable Planner Help Please ??

Hi there,

I work for a large educational establishment and need to pre plan my timetables outside or SIM Student Information Management system, I currently do this using excel, and it works great, but my process is very labour intensive.

I work in rows, at the top I have circa 20x staff, in the middle I have 20x programmes/courses/classes, and at the bottom I have 15x rooms / workshops. We also work in 2 semester per year, so every staff/class/room have 2 rows, one for each semester/block.

I start by giving each class a different colour, and entering in a subject in a class box, then copying it to a designated lecturer and then same to a designated room.

Instead what I’d like it to do is I enter key words in start of every class box that flag and copy to a specific lecturer and room, ie if I was to enter say RT WS04 – Welding Unit 4 in a box, and it would then take the colour of the box and copy it into the corresponding row for the RT Robert Thompsons lecturers row and then the same for WS04 Workshop 04 room row.

I don’t have much experience with macro’s but presume this may be needed for above? Any ideas / help?

Also any pre-made school / college / university timetabling systems I could get a free download of to trial / test?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated?
