If column A has: red apples, green apples, pears, lemons, and yellow apples, and column B has quantities, I am trying to create a SUMIF in column B that adds quantities if "apples" is in the cell in column A.

Excel Facts

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
How about
Excel Formula:
=sumifs(b:b,a:a,"*apples*")
