[FONT=&quot]this is just something I am playing around with just to make my worklife easier, so theres no hurry and its more adressed to the people who enjoy messing around with macros to test their abilities

[FONT=&quot]So basically what I am doing:[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]I export a tremendous amount of .dat files that vary on three criterias and they come in pairs, one for 2014 and one for 2015[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]I then copy the data from those single sheeted files into a template file i prepared beforehand, combining the pairs, but create a single file based on each of the criterias.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]And in another sheet in the file where i consolidate the data of the two years i change the values of three cells.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]What i was thinking about doing:[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]- Naming the exports "criteria1a_criteria2a_criteria3a_year.dat" and saving all my exports in one folder[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]- Open the template file and then run a macro that somehow checks all the files in the export folder, finds the pairs and for each pair:[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]- changes sheets.("Rawdata").cells(1,26) to criteria1a (extracted from Filename)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]- changes sheets.("Rawdata").cells(2,24) to criteria2a (extracted from Filename)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]- changes sheets.("Rawdata").cells(2,25) to criteria3a (extracted from Filename)[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]- then copies the values of the first sheet of the file "criteria1a_criteria2a_criteria3a_2014.dat" into the sheet "Export 2014""[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot] - then copies the values of the first sheet of the file "criteria1a_criteria2a_criteria3a_2015.dat" into the sheet "Export 2015"[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]-Then saves the file as "criteria1a_criteria2a_criteria3a.xls"[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]-continue with next pair[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]
The filenames will be something like:S11_eggs_bananas_2014
criteria1: starts with "s" then digits(at least 2, up to 6)
criteria2: string
criteria3: string
[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]for extra points: there might not always be a .dat file for both years[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
