Hi....

As per title, I have both versions of Excel - I need to set 2003 as the default for opening xls files, but can't seem to override 2007 which wants to hog all the action. I've been through the File Types menu and selected the 2003 version of Excel as the default, but it doesn't make the slightest difference. Can anyone help?

TIA

I encountered similar problems, and only found partial solution: if Excel 2003 is selected from File Type managers, the XLS files will be open by it by default, if Excel 2003 is open itself. So first open Excel 2003 with blank new file, and then double click on any XLS file. It's not perfect, but helps a bit.

Hi - I found the solution to this problem. You have to go back to your Office 2003 setup and run detect and repair - the xls files will then open with Excel 2003 when double-clicked and the 2007 file types will open with Excel 2007 - I would imagine the same holds true for any of the other office apps with different file extensions from 2003.

please try to make default office 2003 as per following changes......
here is what worked for me... 1-Open My Computer
2-Go to Tools --Folder options
3-Click the File Types tab
4-Scroll down to the XLS file type and highlight it
5-Click the Advanced button
6-Under actions, click to highlight "Open"
7-Click the Edit button
8-In the path, change "Office12" to "Office11" no quotes
9-Click Ok, Ok
