Is excel the right program to do this? It seems I can always find a way to do anything in excel!

I have a list of ID numbers in file A. In file B, I have a mailing list and corresponding ID numbers, some of which match those of file A.

How do I delete the records in file B which do not match those in file A?

Thanks!

I realize this is a very old thread but I believe this is exactly what I need. My problem is, I am a definite newb when it comes to Macros, modules, etc.

What I need to accomplish is this:

I start with this:

Column A Column B
Amy Amy
Adrienne Bill
Alice Charlie
Arnold Doug
Bill
Brad
Carl
Charlie
David
Doug

I need this result:

Column A Column B
Amy Amy
Adrienne
Alice
Arnold
Bill Bill
Brad
Carl
Charlie Charlie
David
Doug Doug

Obviously on a much larger scale. There are two caveats:
1. These columns could be names or numbers, it changes every time
2. The actual columns change every time. I can align the columns next to each other, but it isn't be Columns A and B every time. It could be Columns G and H or Columns M and N. I don't know how difficult it is to alter a macro on a per case basis by column name, etc.

If someone could help it would be very much appreciated but please explain this in terms that a rookie like me could understand. I know how to create a macro but I don't think I understand some of the notation in the explanations above, i.e. are things inside of the paragraphs just explanations or are they functions that the macro runs or are they variables that can change with each running of the macro. I consider myself very computer literate, semi-coding literate, and fully Excel ignorant.

Thanks again in advance for any help.

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Wow that didn't align at all, did it? I think you can understand the issue. The second name in each row above should be tabbed over underneath the Column B.
