    Not sure exactly what you are asking. You said they are of format 01/10/01, but that they were also serial numbers?

    If you just want the month out of the date row, you can use =Month(A1).

    oh boy... that was easy. I was trying to use =LEFT(A1,2) and for 01/10/01 it was returning '36' (the first two digits of the serial number for 01/10/01), no matter what format I tried for the date column. oh well.. =Month worked much better. thanks KKKnie!
