I'm trying to define the following variables:

dim z as integer
dim a as integer

z = "012913"
t = Format(Date, "mmddyy")
a = t - 1

my issue that z is being set to "12913" rather than "012913". similarily, a is "12815" rather than "012815".

how can i fix this to read as described above?
thanks

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
Try it this way:

Dim z as string
Dim a as string
z="012913"
a=Format(Date-1,"mmddyy")

looks like that works for the variable "z" but not the Date-1 var "a". hmmmmmmm. any other suggestions?

Works for me - what exactly indicates to you that it doesn't work for "a"?

Run this and see what you get in the message box.
Code:
Sub Test()
Dim z As String
Dim a As String
z = "012913"
a = Format(Date - 1, "mmddyy")
MsgBox z & vbCrLf & a
End Sub
