Security Problem

I set up a security measure (to keep me from doing something stupid on a spreadsheet), now every time i open the spreadsheet, i have to type in the password. I know that password, that's not the problem. I want to take the password completely off, its too much of a hassle and others can't open the document if i send it to them without the password. I can't remember how to do this!

The first window says "This template is protected."
then asks for the password.

After entering that password

The next window says "This template is reserved by me"
Enter password for write access, or open read only.

Please help me turn this off!

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
If you're using 2007, just save it as a .XLSX.

What's "the first window"? Is it a message box, like a VBA MsgBox? Is it a worksheet? A userform?

Can you post a screen grab of it so we can work out what it is?

Does it still happen if you open the workbook with the shift key held down, or if you open it from an untrusted location?

Is there any code if you press Alt-F11 and look through the worksheets?

1) Open (with the correct password).
2) Save As | Tools | General Options
3) Remove the password (blank it out)
4) Now complete the Save (you can use the same filename - it will overwrite)

Tools is a button in the save as dialog. You want to take care of this before hitting OK and completing the save. I thought it was in the top right but with my pc at home its the bottom left ... anyway, it's there!

If you get two passwords you may have a linked file also with its own password ... check for linked files in this case (I'm not sure why two messages actually but one step at a time...try to hit the original template file first. Make sure you shut down Excel first to eliminate hidden workbooks or other oddities)
