If a 75% is actually worth 100% to my customer, then what formula would I use to figure out the how many points I get out of 40 if I get 72%?
Points avaialble=40
Percentage to get 40 points=75%
What formula can be used to figure out the amount of points received for different percentages?

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
Thank you shg for the quick response. That worked perfectly. My next question is if there is a way for it to stop calculating ar 40 points. Since the max is 40 points I want to hit 40 at 75% and then stop increasing the points.

How can 75% = 100%?

If 75% = 40 points then 100% = 53 1/3

So you have to work from the whole amount:

Excel Workbook
ABCD
1PercentResult
253.3333372%38.4
360%32
476%40
5100%40

Thanks HOTPEPPER. This worked perfectly, but I changed it a little bit. To avoid putting 53.33333 in a random cell I just added it to the formula in place of the $A$2.

You're welcome.

If those amounts stay constant, then:

=MIN(40,C2*(53+1/3))
