A few simple questions

Hi everyone!

I have a few simple questions that I hope you can help me on, b/c I've looked online and haven't found the answers I'm looking for.

1. As a math teacher, I need excel to display fractions as ½ and not 1/2 b/c the students are more used to that method. The current method I'm using is by having a row of commonly used fractions and referring to each cell. Is there a better way to display those fractions? The second prob I'm having is that when I make my answer key, I can't use ½ b/c excel doesn't recognize it as a number.

2. I have found that the RAN function is quite useful b/c I can create endless number of worksheets for my students since none of the equations will ever have the same numbers. There are certain limitations to what I can type up with basic Excel. For example, equations with the division bar, or the integral sign are not doable unless I use the Microsoft Equations 3.0 plugin. However, if I use the plugin, then I have to actually set a value and I can't use the RAN. Is there a way that I can get the best of both worlds?

3. All my worksheets are categorized by what topics they cover. Is there a way I can create a worksheet that will pull random questions from random worksheets that I have? (for example: I want to create a test that will contain 10 questions, and question 1 will contain a problem from either the "solve for x" worksheet or "factoring quadratic equations" worksheet, and question 2 will contain a problem from the "word problem" worksheet...and so forth?)

TIA
Appreciate any and all help!

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
as for 1, you can format the cell as fractions, just input the decimal value and it displays AOK
