How do I make one cell always refer to another cell?

If in A1 I enter the formula =C1 and later on I insert one column to B, A1 will now refer to D1. How do I make A1 always refer to C1 in this case? I'm looking for a non-VB script solution. Thanks.

Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
=$A$1.....are you wanting to keep a value or stick with the cell ref? if you insert a date into B1, then insert a column between A and B then the date will move to C1, are you looking to ref the newly entered cell?
