I have run into this problem on a few occassions. I use the Accounting Format and when I input a zero or when the answer to a formula is zero, it usually shows as a dash; either a dash with a $ or a dash without, depending upon how I formatted the cell. That's fine except I can enter the same info in two cells that are formatted exactly the same and one will show the dash for zero and the other will show 0.00. Can anyone explain this to me? I have tried everything to get them to both be a dash but I just can't! Help!!!

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.

Can you explain to us exactly how you are setting the cell's format?
Also, is there any VBA code in your workbook? Something could be changing your values upon input.

Hi, welcome to the board.

Are you sure both cells are both formatted the same way ?
You can make sure of this by using Copy, Paste Special, Formats to copy paste the formats from one cell to another.

I don't often use the Accounting format myself but I experimented with it.
For me, it shows
£ -
(I'm in the UK :-) )
when the underlying value is exactly 0.

However, if the underlying value is NOT exactly 0, for example £0.001, then it shows as
£ 0
or
£ 0.00

Hope this helps . . .
