actve cell value

How can I refer to the value of an active cell in an IF statemen in a Macro. Let´s say I just =left(a5,1) and I got an "m"

IF ??? = "m" then ...

x = Left(ActiveCell, 1)
If x = "M" Then
    MsgBox "you gotit!"
End If
