Hi, I have a spreadsheet which contains the products to be imported into our ecommerce store. The details of a product rely upon two main columns:

Product Name | Primary Options

The first column "Product Name" contains repeated instances of the same data so for example:

Energy Efficient - Wall Mounted Gas Combi - Baxi - Combi HE
Energy Efficient - Wall Mounted Gas Combi - Baxi - Combi HE
Energy Efficient - Wall Mounted Gas Combi - Baxi - Combi HE

The second column contains the different options for this product eg:

Combi 105 HE
Combi Instant 105 HE
Combi Instant 80 HE

We have around 6000 products on our site and the new release of our ecommerce software requires each 1st primary option for each product to have a "*" before the text in the cell, eg:

*Combi 105 HE
Combi Instant 105 HE
Combi Instant 80 HE

Anybody know of a way I can automate the process of adding the "*" ?

Cheers

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
Insert a new column next to the second column.
Put this in the first cell:
=CONCATENATE("*",B1)

Put this in the second cell, and copy it all the way down:
=IF(A2=A1,B2,CONCATENATE("*",B2))

This assumes A is your Product Name column, and B is the Options column.

You can then use the Copy and Paste Special - Values option to replace the formulas with the values having the * included.
