Allocating data to a column based on set criteria

Hi, bit of a question, not sure if I can explain it properly but here goes -

If Cell A reads "5". Using the 5 I need to allocate Cell B's data "£4000" to automatically put the "£4000" into a third, Cell C (contained within a hidden column designated as 5. I have five separate columns numbered 1-5). So if I input the data in the first two cells it will automatically allocate the data to the correct column based on the criteria I have input in the first two Cells. Is this possible or am I sending myself crazy for no reason?!

Many thanks. Hopefully someone can help.

Excel Facts

Last used cell?
Press Ctrl+End to move to what Excel thinks is the last used cell.
Via Formula, something like this, the one formula shown is copied down and across those columns as needed:

Excel Workbook
ABCDEFG
1CategoryAmount12345
25$ 400.00 $ 400.00
33$ 200.00$ 200.00
41$ 150.00$ 150.00

Hi there,

The formula used is not picking up items in columns, 1;2;3;4 and 5. Is there another way of writing the formula?

Thanks in advance.

I've demonstrated visually above how to do it, and based on your question it works. What is different? Use the Excel Jeanie tool to show me what you're doing differently.
