anchor won't release

this may seem stupid, but I can't get excel to release from a cell.

I am in cell A4 and when I move my mouse anywhere on the sheet the cells become highlighted. For example if I mouse over C4, cells A4,B4 and C4 are highlighted.

Problem is no matter what I try, I can't stop excel from anchoring on A4.

I can't enter Numbers in any cell nor cut and paste. I am trying to stop the mouse from anchoring on A4. How do I release it?

tried that, no luck.

fixed it. clicked the center button on the mouse.
