I am using the " ' " annotation for "foot" in data in a description field that Access does not like.

Do I have to change it to something else, or is there a function in access that will override it?

If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
It really depends on how you are using this. I don't see a problem with using it in a normal context but the question is, what do you mean that "...Access does not like?" What are you seeing (remember we can't see what you see so we are at the mercy of your descriptions)?
