Apply Data Validation to cells whose results are calculated using a formula

I have applied data validation to allow whole numbers between 1 and 3 in a column of data. The kicker is that the result in those cells is calculated using a formula. It looks as though data validation only works using data input into a cell. I'm not sure why this limitation is in place but I'm sure that microsoft has their reasons.

Is there a simple way that I can implement data validation to a range of cells that the result is calculated using a formula?

Thanks

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
You have a few options:
  1. Put data validation on the cell(s) that feed into the formula
  2. Have the formula return a value such as "Invalid" when it goes above/below your threshold.
  3. Use a Worksheet_Change event that monitors the input cells. If the formula value goes above/below your threshold, it can bring up a message box stating to enter a different value, and then return you back to the cell that was just edited.

Unfortunately #1 is not possible as I already have a Data Validation applied to those cells (list).

#2 Won't work for me either.

As expected looks like #3 is my only choice if data validation is important enough for me to include. I wasn't expecting there to be many options but I was hoping that someone would be able to think of something that I couldn't.

Thanks again for your quick reply MrKowz!
