Hi

I am using Excel 2003 and want to know if is is possible to have a graph with 2 sets of data.
1 needs to be in columns
1 needs to be an area graph.

I then would like the area graph to be displayed in front of the column.

Is this possible?

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
I'm pretty sure it's possible, but if the area bit is in front of the column, doesn't that mean the columns won't be visible ?

The values for the columns are greater than the values that make up the area.
Everything I try puts the area to the back and the columns in front.

whilst you can create the combination of area and column the area chart will always appear behind the columns as they are drawn of different layers.

One way around this is to create an area data series that mimics a column series. You can do this this extra data points and using a Time series axis rather than category.

You will also need another dummy lines series to handle the masking of axis labels.

Thank you all for the replies.

I think the amount of work far outweighs the benefit.

I will tell my manager no.

Thanks again.
