How do I assign a macro to a column?

What I would like to do is assign a macro to a column ensuring the correct data is entered. If the incorrect data is entered, I would like a messagebox to open, prompting the user to correct the data in that particular cell, ingnoring blank cells that have not been reached yet.

Thanks again in advance for all your help.

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Jen:

I am currently using the data validation function, but, as the operator enters data (via scanner), the program moves extremely slow. I believe all the formula within the worksheet is a contributing factor of this.
