Auto format for dates

I was wondering if there was a way for a cell to automatically format a date when I enter numerics only;

Example:

I would type this into a cell: 052511

I would like it to return the date of: 05/25/2011

I know that you can format dates in cells. I know how to do this. I'm just wondering if there is a way to do this (without macros).
