Auto Generate Serial numbering based on Column B non empty cells

Hello Experts !

I have column A in which i need to generate auto Serial numbers based on column B if column B cell is empty so dont enter a serial number in that cell of column A if column B cell has data then put a serial number to Column A cell?

put the following formula in Cell A1 and copy down:
=IF(B1="","",COUNTA(B$1:B1))

I have to generate serial no. only if mention "Status" (particular word) otherwise not want to put any serial no. Please help.

Well, I would say: start a new thread and explain more clearly what you want, e.g. you have a header in A1 and data from A2 downwards and you want a serial number starting with e.g. 1 in column B if the corresponding cell in column A contains "status" somewhere in the middle (or the full tekst is "Status"), otherwise leave B empty or use the previous serail number??
