Automatic rolling number on new sheets

Good morning,
I am trying to automatically generate a consecutive number onto the next sheet in order into cell D5, then automatically save the first sheet and open the next sheet in that order. Does that make sense? i.e sheet 1 cell d5= 0001, sheet 2 cell d5 = 0002

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
