automatically entering tick or X

is it possible to have a tick mark for correct answer or an X incorrect answer display auomatically
A1 2X2 ---- B1 answer will be 4 then in D1 a tick mark or if answer incorrect to display an X
using column C as helper column 4 will be tick any other number an X in column D

does not matter what number I put in I get an X

I have an X display down column until correct answer is put in. Is it possible for nothing to display if cell is blank

I'm still getting an X if cell is empty. I expect it has to do with my formula =IF(C2=B2,TRUE,FALSE)

Which cell to you want to check? My formula assumes it's C1 - change to suit.

Your formula can be shortened to:

=C2=B2

A1=2*2 ---- B1= answer ------ C1= correct answer I have put in
D1= true/false ---- E1= P
