Avoiding the zeros

I have a complex (for me) spreadsheet that goes pear shaped if a zero is introduced into any one of a set of cells.

Can anyone suggest a way of making a default setting for these cells to be, say 0.0001? This way myspread sheet continues to work. The 0.0001 has a negligable effect on the calcs.

I suggest it would be more productive to fix the problem that is causing things to go pear-shaped when a zero is encountered. Can you provide some more detail on that?

What if you select the range of cells and do a find and replace (CTRL-H) to change all the zeros to 0.0001 - being sure to select whole cell values only so that entries like 50 don't change?

Or maybe use data validation on the cells so that 0 is not a valid entry?
