I'm getting a "the value you entered isn't valid for this field" error. Yet the data i'm inputting to recieve the message is indentical to the other 4000 peices of data which went in fine!

How can this be?

Excel Facts

Quick Sum
Select a range of cells. The total appears in bottom right of Excel screen. Right-click total to add Max, Min, Count, Average.
I think we'll need a bit more details!

How is the field formatted?
Does it allow duplicates?
What does the data you are trying to import look like?
Some examples would be helpful.

the 1 record out 4000 is indentical to the other 3999. the table where they are being pasted would reject all of them if it were a problem based there, surely.

the record was in excel and i even copy and pasted the format of the other 3999 on to the 1 that wont paste, to no avail.

It's very strange.

What happens if you copy the field value from a row that you know works to the cell in Excel that is causing the error? Then does your import work?

I have seen examples where people think the data is the same, but really isn't. Sometimes there are special invisible characters (spaces, carriage returns), especially if the data was copied from somewhere else, like the Web.

But all this is really just speculation. Things like your data, table structure, and the method of import all play import roles here. Without knowing all those details, it is very difficult to pinpoint what your problem may be, so all we can really do is guess.
