Hi

I'm building a simple overtime measurement tool, but cant seem to get the hours to add up. Please help.
See example below:

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 309pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=412><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 100pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 4864" width=133><COL style="WIDTH: 53pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2596" span=3 width=71><COL style="WIDTH: 50pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2413" width=66><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 36.75pt; mso-height-source: userset" height=49><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 1pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 1pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 100pt; HEIGHT: 36.75pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl68 height=49 width=133>Date</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 1pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 53pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl69 width=71>Start Time</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 1pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 53pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl69 width=71>End Time</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 1pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 53pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl70 width=71>Total Time Worked</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 1pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 50pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl69 width=66>Overtime</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 1pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl66 height=20 align=right>1-Apr</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl65 align=right>8:00</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl65 align=right>16:23</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl67 align=right>8:23</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl67 align=right>0:23</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 1pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 height=20 align=right>2-Apr</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl65 align=right>8:00</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl65 align=right>19:00</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl64 align=right>11:00</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl64 align=right>3:00</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 1pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 height=20 align=right>3-Apr</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl65 align=right>8:00</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl65 align=right>17:00</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl64 align=right>3:00</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #eaf1dd; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl64 align=right>0:00</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Both the total time worked and ovetime column doesn't sum. Tried using, sum(a2:a10) and sum(a2:a10)*24

Thanks

What Result do you get? anything at all? or just the wrong value?

=sum(D2:D10) Should definitely work for calculating the Total Time Worked. In fact, i've just copy / paste your data to a brand new sheet and it works fine.

The only thing you need to consider is that if the result is OVER 24 hours the FORMAT of your Total Cell needs to be a custom format:

[hh]:mm

Rather than

hh:mm

i.e. Right click on the cell, go to Format Cell, In the category field where it lists things like General, Number, Percentage. Select Custom. Then in the Type Field on the right, manually type in [hh]:mm

Thanks :). The custom format sorted it out.

If i wanted to allocate a cost to the hours calculated, eg. $100 per hour, which formula would i need to use.

Thanks

No problem!

If you want to calculate how much someone has earned, based on their hourly rate you would use the following:

Example:
If the Cell D1 contains the Total Hours worked
And if the Hourly Rate = $100

The Formula you need = D1*24*100

You will need to set the Cell that this appears in to be the Currency format. I think that should work.
