Can you insert a symbol in Excel?

I need to insert a check-mark on a spreadsheet. (Often) Right now, I open Word, insert my check-mark, copy it and paste it in Excel. I then change the font to whatever the symbol was. Is there an easier way to do this?

I'm fairly new to this board and have found many useful idea's. Some of which have come from your postings. I appreciate the time you and others spend in helping us out. One of the things I like about this board is that posters don't, until now, critises others.
Keep up the postings, I for one will work through the English problem, any way its always understandable.
