Can you open excel files on your desktop with keyboard shortcuts?

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
You can use the arrow keys to select the file of interest then press Enter.

You can press the letter keys repeatedly to select among the files that begin with that letter.

Here's what I've done...

Pin the workbooks to the start menu at the very top. Press Windows + down arrow to get to the top one... viola!! :) Windows + down arrow twice to get to the next.

Other options I had to use because I keep most my workbooks on USB. You cannot pin workbooks on your USB drive to the start menu (as far as I know).

I created a workbook with the macro "Workbook_Open" in "ThisWorkbook" and in the macro I have it running hyperlinks to the workbooks I want open. I pinned this workbook to the start menu. Press Windows + down arrow to get to it in the start menu. And viola.. all the workbooks that I indicated in the macro will open. :)

If anybody has any other ideas... please let me know!!

You can create a shortcut on your desktop to the file. Right click the short cut and in the properties there should be an option for assigning a keyboard shortcut.

Nice... I may use this and rename my important workbooks with "rare letters" like y or z. OR maybe with numbers as the first character. Then if I'm in any other application I could go Windows + D + z or Windows + D + 1 to open the workbooks.

Thanks!
