No matter what I try, I cannot change a column of figures into a "number" format with 1 decimal place. There is no conditional formatting on the column nor are the cells "locked".

Any thoughts? I would be grateful.

Excel Facts

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
If number formatting a cell has no effect on the appearance of the value in the cell, this is likely caused by "Numbers Stored As Text". In other words, the value of the cell is not actually a number, but Text that looks like a number...

to test, use

=Isnumber(A1)

To resolve, type a 1 anywhere on your sheet, copy it.
Highlight offending column, paste special - values - multiply.

Not sure

Yes, the cells are formatted as text (I believe).

For instance, the cell contents show up as ="0.9"

Not sure on how the fix you suggested would work. I'm not clear on how to change these fields.

Thanks again.
