Hi all,

I am working on a line graph showing the number of employees, the FTE (how many 40-hour fulltime equivalent employees we have, where part-timers count as less than 1), and the authorized FTE (including open positions) over the course of the year, like so:
# of EEsFTE (current)FTE (authorized)
1/1/2015254230.84247.44
1/31/2015252232.34248.94
2/28/2015252231.34247.94
3/31/2015242232.34248.94
4/30/2015244234.34250.44
5/31/2015247232.54248.94
6/30/2015246234.18258.78
7/31/2015
8/31/2015
9/30/2015
10/31/2015
11/30/2015
12/31/2015

I originally had all kinds of problems with the X-axis formatting and had to set it to a text axis to make it stop automatically showing the first of each month, but now it's just dropped 12/31 off the chart completely. So while my data is as you see, the chart just has 1/1, then the last day of every month up through 11/30, where it stops.

I've checked the data selection, checked the series and x-axis, the last line of the data is included in everything and 12/31 shows up under "Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels" in the "select data" dialog box, but it won't actually show up on the chart and I can't figure out why. Resizing the chart doesn't change anything, reselecting the data doesn't do anything, I absolutely have no idea why it's just deciding not to show the last line of the data!

I've tried putting sample data into the entire thing so that 12/31 is a row with values in all the relevant columns just like the rest to see if that was the problem, and nope - the chart just...doesn't show those final data points for each series. It keeps cutting off at 11/30/15 no matter what I do.

Does anyone know why it might be doing this???

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
Hi Jadelyn

I've recreated your chart and all data is showing, regardless of whether the dates are displayed natively, or as text (notwithstanding if they are displayed natively the default is to show the first day of the month on the chart (if you have formatted the axis to display days)).

Consequently, I'm out of ideas - except check to make sure both the 'Legend Entries (Series)' and 'Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels' ranges are the same (right click chart -> Select Data). I've found in the past that data will only be displayed to the extent that the range of the data is the same as the horizontal axis' range (ie the horizontal axis range seems to be the default range for displaying data).

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Had the problem today with Excel 2016. Correction after clicking on the label area on the chart was to change the "Axis Options | Axis Type" from "Automatically select based on data" to "Text axis". Doing so showed the final data label!

i was able to update my chart with the following: First - select the chart, right-click and select data. I had to select the correct year and click Edit. Then I moved my mouse over the last number in the field to update it. Other attempts either moved the selected data or added to the formula, which caused an error.
Excel updated the chart and I noticed the vertical lines update.
Then I selected a previous data label, right clicked and selected Format Data Label. Then I went through the steps to update the data label (expanded the area).
Excel interestingly treats these as two separate functions.
