Hi,

I need a formula that checks whether a value is present in a list. And if so, it needs to give points for that.

For example, this is the list:
James
Julia
Adam
Michael
John
Miranda

Now in another calculation it shows another set of names. Lessay, in one of them it shows:
Peter. What I want to do is that Excel checks whether Peter is present in this list above. If so, it should give points for that.

I've tried to work with vlookup and with match, but both of them didn't really work. What can I do? If you want I can upload the Excel file I'm working on (it's for the footbal world cup).

Thanks in advance!

Excel Facts

Round to nearest half hour?
Use =MROUND(A2,"0:30") to round to nearest half hour. Use =CEILING(A2,"0:30") to round to next half hour.
Something like this perhaps

Excel Workbook
ABC
1JamesPeter1
2Julia
3Adam
4Michael
5John
6Miranda
7Peter
Sheet2

Thanks! That works. Now to figure out how to put this into a really big formula :).

Thanks for the quick reply too!

Just out of curiosity, what does the ISNUMBER function do here? I haven't used this before, so I'm curious! When I leave it out, it results into #N/A, so I clearly need it, I just don't understand why.

Thanks again!

ISNUMBER checks whether the MATCH returned a number. If it did, then a match was found.
