I would like to have a row that will display the column reference. When I try to use the formula '=Column()' I get the numeric position "3", and I want the row indicator "C" instead. Is there a formula that allows me to easily display the column indicator?

Thanks,

Robert

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Yes, there is...

But first..

WHY do you want the column letter?

It is not necessary to use column letter when referring to cells in a formula.
Quite the opposite, it is frequently EASIER to refer to the column # instead..

If you just want it for display purposes, that's fine.
But if you intend to use the resulting letter in another formula, then there is likely a better way.
Can you explain your ultimate goal?

I am preparing a workbook validation and I need the column reference to appear below a row so that the auditor will know the current column the cell formula resides in.

Try this...

=SUBSTITUTE(ADDRESS(1,COLUMN(),4),1,"")
