I should start by saying I am a novice Excel user. My master file has student ID's and a blank column that needs to be populated with the method of transportation. File two contains student IDs and transportation codes, B (bus), P (parent), O (other). I want to search on student ID's and insert the transportation code in the master where I've created a blank transportation code column. I'm sure I am overcomplicating, this. I've installed Ablebits in hopes of finding a solution but I continue to keep coming up short. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
I'm not familiar with Ablebits, but it sounds like you could make use of the VLOOKUP function in the blank column in workbook 1. VLOOKUP has some limitations, so there are other "Lookup & Reference" functions that could be used as well, such as an INDEX and MATCH combo.
