I have a protected Worksheet but I would like the people using it to be able to use the comment window when notes need to be added for certain entries. Is there a way to do this?

How to create a cell-sized chart?
Tiny charts, called Sparklines, were added to Excel 2010. Look for Sparklines on the Insert tab.

Yes you can add a button for them to hit, which would take them to the comments, unprotect the sheet, then let them add comments.
