compare & capture the respective details to other excel file

I have two excel files and both the files are having the email id common and we need to compare the mail id from one file and capture the respective fields in other file. I understand that VLookup would function only within the same file but different worksheets. However, please suggest a process to do so.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

vlookup will work across multiple books, you just need to have them both open
