Is it possible to compress certain portions of the X axis on a line graph? For example, suppose you have 3 years of data. Of the visible area of the X axis, display, say, 15% for year 1, 35% for year 2, and 50% for year 3. That would show the trend for historical years 1 and 2 and emphasis on latest year #3. Hope this makes makes sense.

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.

The short answer to your question is "no", Excel does not have a native way to break axes like that. The longer answer is that it might be possible... but breaking the axis like that isn't the best solution anyway. Jon Peltier has a great write-up here on why breaking the axis (specifically referring to the y-axis, but the same principle applies to the x-axis) is a bad idea: Broken Y Axis in an Excel Chart - Peltier Tech Blog

Instead, I would suggest either:
1) Using a different chart type, where maybe a column chart with categories for year 1/year 2/year 3 better illustrates the point you are tying to make
or
2) Use three different charts, one for each year, where the x-axis can have independent scales
