I've got a column with the short format of month in a list

I'd like to highlight in yellow everytime the month changes.

Jan-Highlighted
Jan
Jan
Feb-Highlighted
Feb
Mar-Highlighted
Mar
Mar
Mar
etc.
ect.

I think it's problem solve with condinational format

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
if your list is in column A. Go to cell A2, format, conditional formatting, change condition 1 to "formula is" and use =A2<>A1, then set your formatting you want. Then copy this cell, highlight all your cells in column A and paste special and formats. This formula will check to see if the current cell is the same or different to the previous, if different then the month has changed.

So im on excel 2003 and im pretty sure that some of the menu locations for this in 2007 are different. But you should just ut a title above the months ie "Month" no select them all and go Data > filter > Advanced Filter check "unique records only", now you will see where they change you can highlight that and unfilter

alternatively if the months are in column a set up a formula like this in column B starting at B1

=if(A2=A1,"",1), now all the rows you want to highlight will have a 1 next to them so you can just filter that to display only 1s, highlight the rows and then remove the filter and the values from column B
